The SIG P228 is an extremely capable compact 9mm pistol. It is a smaller version of the P226, and like its larger cousin, has been tested extensively for accuracy and reliability. It was adopted by the US Army as the M11 compact pistol in 1992, and is used by military police, flight and tank crew, and investigative personnel. In addition, the P228 has also been issued to field personnel of the FBI, DEA, Secret Service, and IRS. Many law enforcement agencies use this handgun for jobs where concealability is important, though some officers also carry it as their issue sidearm. Currently, it is available only to police personnel, (mainly due to high demand) but is generally not a problem to purchase legally.
