Only MP5/10s used by FBI SWAT teams are capable of automatic fire. Weapons issued to field agents are semi-automatic only. Though the FBI uses relatively mild 10mm loads, (Wn3) the MP5/10 can be loaded with full-power ammunition. If this is done, when upgrading damage, the shooter would receive a +1t bonus due to the stopping power of the cartridge. All stabilization tests would receive a -1t penalty. Though translucent magazines were originally marketed with the MP5/10, these are no longer available, and the standard black mags are found on most weapons. |
The MP5/10 is the 10mm version of the ever-popular MP5 submachinegun. This gives the weapon the hard-hitting capability of a Thompson SMG in a proven MP5 design. The MP5/10 was designed and manufactured primarily for the FBI, at a time before the .40 S&W was invented. The agency has about 1,400 of these weapons, and they are widely used by their various SWAT teams. Although the FBI uses mid-velocity ammunition, the 10mm cartridge in the proper loadings can be extremely powerful, and the recoil can remain very manageable in a shoulder weapon. However, due to the lack of general enthusiasm about the 10mm cartridge, sales of this weapon outside the FBI have been eclipsed by the MP5/40, (.40 S&W) which is built on the same design as the MP5/10. HK has stopped production of this weapon, but continues to service them.
